You can get a good understanding and feel if you are creating comics 5.0 out of 5 stars The book every cartoonist should have! Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 April 2015 Verified Purchase "Cartoon Faces" by Christopher Hart is a book that I've been waiting for someone to write/draw since I first started drawing cartoons. Search any website for cartoon how-to books, and you'll find hundreds written about poses, anatomy, clothing and a dozen other aspects of drawing cartoons. What was really lacking until this arrived was a book totally dedicated to all aspects of the face. Regardless of your level of detail in cartooning, there are so many features to consider when drawing the facial area that a book dedicated to just this one thing was very much in demand, and this book wildly succeeds at it's task. Taking you from the very basics of head shapes, through each individual facial feature, the author guides the artist on the best way to refine the head, through reshaping, streamlining and the often-overlooked "squash and stretch" technique. This is explained in plain no-nonsense language anyone can easily follow, and highlighted with very helpful drawings and lines indicating directions, etc. Also covered in the book are shading and highlights (something I never even considered before, but after reading this I can immediately see the improvement my cartoons will have by including it), hairstyles of every type and description, and a fabulous chapter on how simple it is to exaggerate features to really bring your characters to life. 5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT INTRO TO CARTOONs probably its a womans job instead.. In summary, I wish this book had been available to me years ago when I was starting out. The amount of excellent tutorials and tips contained in it make it an absolute bargain, and any cartoonists out there who don't have this on their shelf are missing out. A must-have purchase for anyone interested in character drawing.
Happy sketching :)
