Replacement Chest of Drawer Runners
- #1
Afternoon all to say i'm distraught is an understatement. I've just moved my tool chest to look for a die nut that dropped on the floor but all the drawers rolled out and the unit tipped over.
So far the damage it's just twisted runners which I can drill the rivets out of.
Any ideas where to get replacements before I start looking?

I feel your pain. B&Q do full extension draw runners, though you'll not be able to take the draw off them. That or contact the manufacturer

Local to me is accuride, http://www.accuride-europe.com/products
Be prepared to be confused though when you see the range available, and be prepared to be skint if you buy some.

Try Components direct, they do Accuride ones, which might be of use, think there is some that can be removed like toolbox ones.

Just found some listed on ebay as well. Ill start looking in detail now to see what's suitable. The tool chest is not an expensive (cost about 5-600 quid) branded one but it is well made and easily take the weight of all my engineering tooling taps dies milling cutters ect. I couldn't lift the bloody thing up till I removed all the drawers. To ad insult to injury a cup of coffee my wife left on the top poured into one of the drawers! I'm going to sit in the corner now and cry. I was having a good day till this happened.

Ironmongery direct is probably worth a look too thinking about it....
Sometimes, its best to just leave it all, go inside and sit surrounded by cushion, no harm can then come to you, a project, or anything else that way!

Well all is not so bad now. Got all drawers back in and it only needs 2 pairs of runners so about 20 quid from fleabay

Disastrophe indeed.
The coffee incident may be a help. The second one has happened you can relax a bit. Just watch out for No3.
Good luck.

I bought some full extension runners from ebay recently. Not particularly expensive ones, but not the cheapest (mainly because I only buy from people on ebay when they aren't bedroom traders and I can pay over the phone) anyway the quality is good. I've used them in a trolley I've made. Mine were 22" (closed) and plenty of strength at full extension.

Thanks for the help so far chaps, still not found an exact replacement though. They all seem to be the correct length, width and height but from looking at the drawings it appears none of the mounting holes would line up. I could of course drill new holes in the chest but I'm loathed to do so. If I had a sample in my hand I could see if the runner itself could be re drilled.
I've tried searching using for the same runner but no luck so far. It has the following stamped on the runner: SH>ABC 4501 2TA Any Ideas?

Chances are, the runners are made purposely for use in other equipment, and are not available "retail".
You would be much better off just drilling the runners than spending hours/weeks/£££ trying to find exact replacements, IMO

I would redrill the new runners to match the existing ones, once you have them off you can marry a pair together and copy over the holes. Dont forsee any problem re drilling, Just remember to put a left with a right to match the holes up,

I agree with Stan, probably best to make the new runners fit the cabinet.

Yeah looks like will have to do that. I just hope the new holes required don't fall on an area where there's no material to drill. The new ones I've seen have more holes in them than a piece of meccano!

Well emergency is over.I managed to get some runners from a place in Leeds for wait for it.....the grand sum of 6.78 for 2 pairs. I'll not sleep tonight!
Had to re drill some holes and mill out some slots a bit bigger.
Fitted now and business as usual.....
Ahhhhh
